The Art of Clay: A Tribute to Honduran Pottery

The Art of Clay: A Tribute to Honduran Pottery

We all dream of creating a space that reflects who we are—a place that tells our story and represents our essence. When, after years of hard work, my husband and I finally found the house we would call home, I knew I wanted to fill it with more than just decorative pieces. I longed for objects that would connect us to our roots—a tribute to who we are as a family, as a brand, and as Hondurans.

This journey reminded me of my father’s influence. He always instilled in me the importance of valuing what is made in Honduras—of choosing local not just as an economic act, but as a way to honor our traditions.

My father, founder of our brand, taught us that behind every handcrafted piece lies a story—a connection between the land and the hands that shape it. So, when I searched for accessories for our home, I wasn’t just looking for things—I was seeking pieces that carried that same essence. Traveling across Honduras, I discovered artisanal treasures that not only beautified our space but also carried the soul of our culture. Among them, the most meaningful find was Honduran pottery—an art form that weaves together tradition, heritage, and the natural richness of our land.

This process inspired me to continue my father’s legacy—not only within our home but through our brand as well, serving as a bridge that connects Honduran artistry with the world. My father always championed collaboration with communities that preserve authentic craftsmanship, and that philosophy remains at the heart of what we do today.

Honduran Claywork: A Living Legacy

Pottery in Honduras has deep roots that trace back to pre-Columbian times. In places like La Campa, Lempira, this craft has been passed down from generation to generation. While some techniques have evolved, many traditions remain alive: the use of manual wheels, wood-fired kilns, and the artisan’s personal touch that transforms clay into art. The earth is part of our essence, and Honduran artisans manage to capture the spirit of their surroundings in every piece they create—telling stories that echo through each handcrafted object.

These artisans see pottery not just as a means of livelihood, but as a way to express their stories, their community, and their connection to the world around them. Each piece holds a unique purpose—from the vessels used in daily life to the decorative elements that enhance our spaces—all of them capturing the essence of their natural and cultural surroundings.

Meeting Elena Casco: A Meaningful Encounter with Clay Art

Throughout my travels, I came to a crucial realization: in developed countries, the success of their crafts doesn't lie in the resources they have, but in the pride with which they promote them. I’ve seen how, over time, communities in countries like Italy and Japan have refined their artisanal techniques and, with the support of their people, have created products celebrated around the world. I knew that in Honduras we had the same resources and the same talent—but we had to start by believing it ourselves.

That’s where Elena Casco comes in—a true lover of art and marketing. Though not an artisan by trade, she has studied the art of clay in depth and has always sought to showcase it in a way that is both authentic and respectful. When we met for the first time, I shared my desire to highlight the art of our country and to elevate what we already have. With her strategic vision and passion for Honduran craftsmanship, Elena understood that the challenge wasn’t just to create beautiful pieces—it was to give this art the value and credibility it deserves in the international market.

Elena inspired me with her dedication to blending her knowledge of art with locally handcrafted work—always seeking to honor artisans and highlight the very best of their creations. I proposed that we collaborate on our SS24 collection by incorporating the vases from her brand, Del Barro, as a central part of our visual campaign. This collaboration is not only a way to showcase the art of clay to the world, but also a testament to how a shared vision can create real impact and meaningful growth.

Now, for FW24, we’re taking things a step further. We’re not only continuing to feature these one-of-a-kind vessels, but we’re also working together to create a brand-new exclusive piece that will debut in SS25. We’ll be sharing a few sneak peeks soon! This collaboration between leathercraft and pottery brings together two rich traditions in a statement of pride and purpose: to elevate Honduran artistry and share with the world the legacy of authenticity and strength that defines Our Community.
