Saul Tote Bag in Suede: A High Leather-craft Tote for Work and Travel

Saul Tote Bag in Suede: A High Leather-craft Tote for Work and Travel

A personal note from Raquel Muller, Brand Director of Danilos

I’ll admit something that usually surprises people in fashion: I’m not much of a handbag person, and I’m definitely not a big-bag person.

Never have been. And for those who know me, I am five-one when I stand up straight, so a backpack on me always looks a little… unfortunate. For years, whether I was traveling through Honduras, Europe, Asia, or doing my usual rotation through Miami, New Orleans, Atlanta’s famously chaotic airport, and Virginia, you would always find me carrying the same thing: that backpack. It was functional, reliable, not glamorous at all, but it kept my life together as I moved between sourcing trips, artisan workshops, store visits, and flights that always seemed far too close together. Backpacks were my thing. They were almost part of my identity. And if you’re wondering whether the Saul Bag fits my silhouette, the answer is yes. Fashionably. Comfortably. And with the functionality that, in my world, always comes first.

Then the Saul Bag happened, and my backpack has not been seen since as much. It is probably somewhere in my house feeling abandoned, but I have not looked for it in months.

The Saul Bag is that rare piece in the world of handbags. A structured, architectural tote that feels just as comfortable and adaptable as my old travel companion, while elevating my entire look in a way a backpack never could. It makes me look a bit more like a brand director and a bit less like someone rushing to the homeroom.

What changed everything was the silhouette. Clean lines, sculptural structure, and exposed edges that communicate intention rather than stiffness. These are not decorative elements. Each exposed edge is finished using a premium edge coating process that involves multiple layers and careful drying cycles. This takes time, it cannot be rushed, and it is one of the defining details of true luxury leatherwork. The handles are rolled and fully hand-stitched, a process that requires strength, precision, and decades of developed technique. Very few contemporary brands still do this level of work by hand, but our artisans continue the traditional methods because the result is unmatched.

Craftsmanship is always at the center of our design process. Creating patterns for a structured bag like the Saul takes weeks. We begin with digital patterns for accuracy, but that is only the foundation. Once the first prototype, which we call the maqueta, is complete, the real evaluation begins. Materials are tested repeatedly to optimize structure, softness, weight, and longevity. We refine everything from the suede leather’s drape to the pebble leather’s grain to ensure consistency. Even the Napa-style finishing on certain details undergoes multiple revisions. Although we embrace technology, the work is always done by hand, which naturally limits production but protects the standard of quality and design we insist on.

The bag includes rolled top handles that feel refined without trying too hard and a detachable strap, which for me is essential. If I cannot go hands-free, I will not use the bag. The adjustable side strap, paired with polished hardware, adds dimension and balance without overwhelming the silhouette. The Saul Bag looks elevated and intentional, but more importantly, it works.

Inside, the functionality continues. People imagine fashion directors carrying tiny bags with nothing inside. My reality is a laptop, contracts, swatches, a notebook full of ideas and stress, and snacks I forget about until security stops me. The Saul Bag handles it all with ease. Its generous interior fits my laptop and documents, while dual interior pockets keep the essentials within reach. The structure remains sculptural even when the bag is filled to its limit. Any bag that can survive store visits, production reviews, and airport security at five in the morning has earned my loyalty.

Its proportions are designed with real life in mind. The Saul Bag measures 33 cm in height, 38 cm in width at the base, and 12 cm in depth. The handle drop is 15 cm and the adjustable crossbody strap ranges from 95 to 115 cm. These measurements give the bag presence without overwhelming the wearer. It is polished, balanced, and engineered to hold its form in daily use.

Every Saul Bag is handmade in Honduras by artisans whose skill has been shaped by years of discipline and tradition. These are not mass-produced items. They are crafted with attention to every detail, from the suede leather panels to the pebble leather accents to the reinforced seams that allow the bag to retain its elegant profile over time. Quality is not a trend for us. It is a commitment.

The Saul Bag embodies the philosophy behind the Shaped by the Journey capsule. Strength without noise. Beauty without excess. Structure inspired by the discipline it takes to move forward. It is more than a tote. It is a companion designed to support real, daily life while celebrating the artistry and legacy of Honduran craftsmanship.
